Tianjin University Switches Off For Earth Hour
  March: 2011-03-31

Tianjin University showed its commitment to help building an environmentally sustainable future by switching off lights for one hour on March 26th, a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) named Earth Hour.

On the noon of March 26th, students gathered on campus to sign a pledge for environmental sustainability, one expressing their efforts for greener way of life, including using less disposable chopsticks, plastic bags, etc. At 8.30 PM, dormitory lights on Tianjin University campus went out one by one.

The activity first started in Australia in 2007 as a way to bring community together to acknowledge the importance of reducing consumption of earth’s natural resources. Turning off lights for an hour helps people see the impact that human activities have on the environment. The central theme of Earth Hour 2011 is no longer restricted to climate change, but overall environmental sustainability.
